A blog from my Galaxy Tab

Cabell County Schools is the best school system out there! We are looking forward to a new project this summer where we take a tour of the WV coal fields. In the project teachers will be armed with a Galaxy Tab to take video, photos, blog and log GPS info. This is going to be very neat!!!

First Blog

Hey There! Im Josh Ratliff and I teach Alg. 1 at Huntington High School in Huntington WV. This blog will be mostly about an exciting tour of WV that I will be filming this summer. A few teachers from Cabell County will be participating in a WV studies project in partnership with Marshall University. The goal of the project is to expose teachers, and more importantly, students to the idea of "place based learning". These teachers will visit many historic places in WV and create an online text book for their students using GPS, Google Earth, netbook computers, and cameras.

This is going to be particularly interesting for me because it will be my first assignment as a videographer. I will be using a Canon 7D and a JVC GY HM100 for most of the video footage. Audio will be taken with the Rode NTG-1, Rode NTG-2, and the Zoom H4N. Also I plan to use an indislider deluxe and the Steadicam Merlin. My assignment is to capture the whole process and create a 15-25 minute DVD that can be used by the teachers to motivate students.

Thanks for reading. more soon....
